Behind the Mask Exhibition by Chinwe Roy MBE at the Ipswich Art College Gallery
This is a Past Event and has been Archived.
In Behind the Mask’, the renowned Royal Portrait artist Chinwe Roy MBE uses the notion of "disguise" to examine the methods and consequences of British Colonial Administrative rule, when Cross Rivers people were ostensibly “rescued” from their cultures on the one hand, whilst suffering from what today, might be considered as the horrific consequences of disagreement or rebellion. Issues that are very topical in the world today. As well as a substantial body of paintings Chinwe uses new materials like expanded polystyrene instead of traditional sculpture materials to re-engage the audience and participants on the immediacy of art, by removing barriers between them and the artists. The works are based on Sir Charles Partridge's 1904 collection of artifacts & photographs from the region
Free entry As well as the main exhibition Chinwe’s pictures and prints are available for sale.
