Opera North-Norma
This is a Past Event and has been Archived.
Norma is a rollercoaster of passion, war and destiny. Norma leads her people in a desperate struggle to protect their Pagan way of life. But she has a terrible secret – Pollione, the man leading the destruction of her society, is also the father of her children. Norma is torn, but when he betrays her love she urges her people to fight for their freedom. Battle looms, and Norma and Pollione’s destinies seem entwined to the last... Norma marks the climax of the bel canto repertoire, full of lavish melodies and achingly beautiful arias, including the spellbinding ‘Casta Diva.’ The exciting international cast includes Dutch soprano Annemarie Kremer, who makes her Opera North debut in the title role, while Mexican tenor Luis Chapa sings Pollione and American soprano Keri Alkema takes the part of Norma’s friend and rival, Adalgisa.
