Exhibition: Jane Bown ’Exposures’

This is a Past Event and has been Archived.

Jane Bown has been taking portraits for the Observer newspaper since 1949 and in that time has photographed everyone from Bertrand Russell to the Beatles to Samuel Beckett to the Queen. Her insightful portraits are immediately recognisable and many have become classics of the genre. Over the past few years, Jane's extensive archive has been catalogued for the first time leading to a significant reassessment of her work. The exhibition, designed to showcase 50 of Jane's best photographs across her six-decade career, cements Jane Bown's reputation as one of Britain's most significant photojournalists. There will be a free preview of the exhibition on Friday 13 January at 6pm. A Northumbria University Gallery Touring Exhibition, in association with The Scott Trust.

Open 10am-4pm daily. Annual Pass, £4.50 adult, £3.50 conc, £2.50 child. Day tickets available. Tel: 0191 3842214, Email: dli@durham.gov.uk, Web: www.durham.gov.uk/dli
