Hertfordshire Chorus: Durufle/Allegri/Kodaly/Gabrieli/Widor
This is a Past Event and has been Archived.
The Chorus returns to the Abbey with a programme to thrill. Kodaly's impassioned Missa Brevis was written during the Second World War, and is ultimately a hopeful work, although the agony of war is evident in the music. Allegri's haunting Miserere sends shivers down the spine with its pure and exhilarating top Cs. Most often heard as a wedding recessional, Widor's rousing Toccata is played by Charles Andrews, virtuoso organist and, since the beginning of this season, the Chorus's accompanist. Duruflé wrote his Requiem not to rage against death, but to console the living, and the work is full of haunting melodies. If you like Fauré’s Requiem, you’ll love this too. Please join us to enjoy this wonderful evening of music
