Children’s Olympic Art display

Chertsey Museum is delighted to provide space to the North Runnymede Learning Partnership group of schools to display their Olympic-themed art. Children in the NRLP primary schools were invited to submit a piece of A3 art on a theme as follows: YR&1 My favourite sport; Y2 My favourite sportsperson; Y3 The life of an athlete; Y4 The history of the Olympics; Y5 Olympic values; Y6 Paralympic values. One boy’s and one girl’s piece per class were selected by the school and were judged by the Head Teachers at a recent Steering Group meeting. On display are the winning and runner-up artwork and many of the other entries.

Historical Costumier Louise Taylor, winner of the 2011 Patterns of Fashion Award, will give a talk illustrated with her own work and items from the Olive Matthews Collection. Louise will explore the complex construction techniques required to reproduce accurately not only historic gowns but also suitable undergarments to wear beneath them.
