Chinese New Year at Gunwharf Quays

This is a Past Event and has been Archived.

Gunwharf Quays will be hosting its annual Chinese New Year celebrations - now in their 6th year- on Sunday 5th February to welcome the Year of the Dragon. With vibrant performances from local entertainers, arts and craft activities and children’s face painting, the day promises to be fun for all the family. Kicking off the days’ entertainment at 11.30am will be an eye-catching parade where three colourful Chinese lions dance to the beat of drums and attempt to eat cabbages placed in front of Gunwharf Quays’ stores. The heads of the lions are traditionally thought to deflect bad luck and bring prosperity. The celebrations will continue throughout the day in Central Square until 3pm with Chinese folk dancing, traditional Qi Gong displays and an energetic martial arts performance.

"We had an excellent response from our posting on WhereCanWeGo.com, and it was responsible for drawing folk from a wide area to our event; we recommend you as being the most effective form of publicity around." - Barbara , Village Celebration Food & Crafts Fairs.
"Our family fun day this year was the best ever and a great deal of that success was from a mention on WhereCanWeGo.com. We will definitely be using it for all future events." - Lee Mill Community Association.
