Cycle Ride to Amwell Nature Reserve to see Wildfowl

This is a Past Event and has been Archived.

Join us for a leisurely ride to watch wintering wildfowl on the lakes forming Amwell Nature Reserve near Ware. The 10 mile route mainly consists of off road paths forming National Cycle Network Route 61, which follows the old railway formation to Hertford and the Canal towpath through Ware to Amwell. A small section of the route through Hertford is on quiet streets. Amwell Nature Reserve is a flooded former gravel pit which supports internationally important numbers of wintering wildfowl (which is why we can't wait for a warm Summer day) and is said to be one of the best places to see elusive wintering Bitterns, along with many more common species. There is even a colony of Otters. Bring food and drink, binoculars, a bird identification book, lock and a puncture repair outfit. See Website.

We leave at 10am. Event is free but bring money for Pub Lunch if regd. If you come to the start by car, we do not suggest parking in Morrisons car park. It is supposed to be for shoppers and you risk getting clamped if you park there all day. There should be plenty of on street parking nearby.

Leave from Morrisons Car Park, Black Fan Rd, Welwyn Garden City Hertfordshire AL7 1RY

Every event on WhereCanWeGo has been added by the organisers themselves, so you get a really good feel for what events are about.
If you're organising a public event, you can promote it for FREE by registering here ~ it works so well.
Don't take our word. See what our organisers say:
"We used it to promote a one day open day and it turned out to be the most effective way of getting visitors; slightly over 1/3 rd came through your site, 1/3 from posters and flyers and rather less than 1/3 from the £1,000 of local press ads we paid for!." - The Midland Gliding Cub.
"We had an excellent response from our posting on WhereCanWeGo.com, and it was responsible for drawing folk from a wide area to our event; we recommend you as being the most effective form of publicity around." - Barbara , Village Celebration Food & Crafts Fairs.
