Milk Production From Grass – Farming Landscapes 2012
Cairnhead farm has been in the Craig family for over 60 years and is now being run by Robert and Jackie. Over the past 20 years the dairy herd has increased from 50 cows to the current 350 producing over 2 million litres of milk per year.
All the cows on the farm are calved in the spring in one block and therefore most of the milk produced on the farm is during the spring and summer months when cows are eating grass.
Genetics from New Zealand are imported to breed cows that are more suitable
