Sheep-tastic!
The Romans celebrated the festival of sheep on 21st April. Join in with our theme as we make sheep hats, play sheep trials in the garden and make traditional Roman ‘oscilla’ – little sheep pictures to hang in the trees. ‘Oscilla’ were little images to hang in the trees, they could have been of people or animals. The word came to mean ‘swinging’, as they hung in the trees they would move round, and that’s where we get our word ‘oscillation’ from. It’s thought that they were a substitution of hu
