Introduction to pre-industrial ironmaking
This course will explore the development of iron smelting and production prior to the introduction of coke fired blast furnaces, from the early Iron Age through to the beginning of the 18th century.
Secondary focus of this course will centre on the chemistry and physics of ironmaking, in order to to give participants a deeper understanding of the processes that go on during smelting and forging.
Participants will also have the opportunity to examine archaeological samples of different iron

Tickets cost £25 and must be booked in advance.
Everyone is welcome (no previous archaeological experience necessary), but participants must be aged over 16 years.
