Concubines, Queens and Goddesses: Images of Women in Egyptian Art.
Given by Joanne Backhouse.
This lecture will explore why depictions of women in ancient Egypt were fundamentally different from those of men. It will examine the religious beliefs and myths which underpin those representations. Images of deities, royalty and non-elite women will be evaluated. These will be examined in the context of the society which created them.
