A quarter of a million under-age soldiers fought
in the First World War. Rebecca Steven’s grandfather was one of them. Running away at the age of 15 to join the Seaforth Highlanders, he sent back letters from the front which have inspired Rebecca’s book. Valentine Joe slips through time to war-torn Ypres as seen through modern-day schoolgirl Rose.
