Britten: War Requiem

Britten uses vast forces – a full symphony orchestra and chorus, a chamber orchestra, three soloists and boys’ choir – and a powerful synthesis of Wilfred Owen’s poetry and the traditional Latin Requiem Mass to create a biting commentary on the futility of war fitting for Remembrance weekend in the centenary year of the start of the Great War.
