St Mary's Church, Beaumont
Heritage Open Day: St Mary's Church is set in a commanding position offering fine views of the Solway and the surrounding countryside. This was the site of a Roman turret (70A) on Hadrian's Wall. Later the mound on which the 12th century church stands was the site of a Norman motte (a small castle) belonging to the Le Brun family. The village green was the castle's bailey or courtyard.
