Mersea Barrow
Heritage Open Day: See inside a Roman barrow, built about 90 AD - 120 AD. Excavated in 1912 when a small built structure was discovered , inside which was a lead box containg a fine glass bowl holding cremated remains. These were removed to Colchester museum after discovery. In 2013 the bones were analysed to reveal fascinating facts about a unique funeral rite.
