Quaker Meeting House, Colchester
Heritage Open Day: Grade II listed half-timbered building dating from 1803, originally the home of William Mason, a leading solicitor in the firm serving painter John Constable. It stayed in the family until 1919, when the house became a doctor's surgery. After several more use changes, the house fell into serious disrepair in the 1960s, until the Colchester Quakers bought it in 1971, preserving the frontage and rebuilding the inside to their purposes.
