Historic Hartpury: Orchard Centre

Heritage Open Day: The village name ‘Hartpury’ is derived from the Saxon word for the pear: Hardepirige - a hard pear tree, with fruit like the wilding or perry pear. It is the home of the national collection of perry pearswith over 100 varieties, all of which are in the orchards. The attractive oak framed Orchard Centre at Hartpury acts as a visitor information point and unique specialist centre for training in the production of cider, perry, juice and orchard fruit-based products.
