Historic Hartpury: The Tithe Barn
Heritage Open Day: The Abbey of Gloucester built the tithe barn at Hartpury in the 14th Century. It is one of the largest such structures in the UK (161’x36’) and was used to store the manor’s produce. The roof finials stand out; on one end, facing England is a Welsh dragon while at the other end, looking out towards Wales is an English lion. The barn was altered in the eighteenth century and restored during the 19th Century.
