St Thomas & St Elizabeth RC Church, Thurnham

Heritage Open Day: Catholic Church built in 1848 on a private estate. Contains interesting windows by William Wailes, a collection of vestments and church silver including Pugin monstrance, and processional cross believed to be from Cockersand Abbey. Grounds contain Gillow Family Mausoleum and stone cross from Abbey. Chancel arch painting by Henry Doyle, uncle of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (author of the Sherlock Holmes stories).
