Shrewsbury Unitarian Church

Heritage Open Day: The church is on the site of the first dissenting congregation in Shrewsbury, formed after the Great Ejection of 1662 and has links with Charles Darwin and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The young Charles Darwin worshipped here, brought by his mother Susannah Wedgwood (of the Stoke pottery family). The poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge preached a sermon here in 1798 with a view to becoming the minister. The service was attended by the essayist William Hazlitt who walked from Wem to hear
