Heritage Open Day: Broomhill Open Air Swimming Pool is just one of thirteen Grade II listed lidos left in the UK. It is the only 'Olympic' plus length lido in Suffolk, Norfolk & Essex; and the only 'Modernist' style public building left in Ipswich. The lido operated for 64 years before closure in 2002. It provided important, moral boosting leisure during WW2 and was also used by the National Fire Service as an emergency source of water to put out incendiary fires in NW Ip
