Heritage Open Day: Galton Valley is a unique and wonderful place in Smethwick crammed full of waterway heritage for visitors to enjoy. During the day visitors will be able to visit the new Smethwick Pumping Station and the original site of the Smethwick Engine. The new pumping station is a late Victorian pumping station originally used to continuously pump water from the lower Birmingham New Main Line canal to the higher Old Main Line canal.
