City in the Hills an Illustrated Talk by Ann Kilbey

In the 19th century, the regular supply of clean drinking water for the fast developing towns of West Yorkshire and East Lancashire was a priority. Consequently, great numbers of reservoirs were built across the Pennines. This is the story of one such undertaking at Walshaw Dean.
Painstakingly researched by Ann, this is a very human story of courage, Victorian ambition and deprivation. Equally it is an insight into the Victorians ‘Just Do It’ attitude to civil engineering.
