The Nightingales by Peter Quilter is set in the 1950’s home of cabaret pianist Jack Nightingale. One morning, while singer Maggie and housekeeper Geraldine are discussing men, Jack’s parents Charlie and Beatrice turn up with their trunk. Much to Jack’s horror, they want to stay for “a few days”.
