Testament of Youth (12a)
This film is based on the first volume of Vera Brittain’s memoirs, published in 1933. At the start of WWI she was an undergraduate at Somerville College, Oxford - something she had to fight for, given the attitude to women at the time. However, she interrupted her studies to volunteer as a nurse, witnessing the tragic loss of life first hand. After the war she continued to write, worked as a journalist and became a confirmed pacifist.
