My Ancestors were Thames Watermen and Royal Watermen
Pat Hilbert's talk relates to her father's family, the Greens, 69 of whom were Thames Watermen operating on the upper reaches of the tidal stretch of the Thames from the late 1600s. They moved into the field of leisure pursuits and ran a boathouse at Chiswick from 1872. Four were winners of Doggett's Coat and Badge, the oldest annually recurring event in the world's sporting calendar. Nine have over 300 years combined service as Royal Watermen since the time of George II.
