Edith Cavell: Learn about the honoured British Nurse from the First World War
Edith was a First World War British nurse who is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers in Brussels from all sides without discrimination. She helped over 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium with Belgian and French colleagues.
She was arrested, tried with 33 others by a German military court, found guilty of ‘assisting men to the enemy’ and shot by German firing squad on 12 October 1915. Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Women Nicky Morgan announced
