First World War Study Day

The First World War and the British Empire, led by David Stevenson (LSE).
Programme. In 1915 Britain controlled the largest empire in history. On the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, this study day looks at that empire’s response to an unprecedented challenge, and at events that still shape our world today.

Topics include: The ‘British World’ in 1914. Australia, New Zealand, and the memory of Gallipoli. the conquest of Germany’s colonial empire: from China to Africa. The reality behind
