The Domesday Survey

It is a generally held misconception that the years following the Norman Invasion of 1066 saw the new monarch, William of Normandy, peacefully ruling his new and occasionally disgruntled people. In fact, the following 20 years saw an expensive series of internal rebellions and attempts at invasion from the Continent. Probably the most well-known of the rebellions was that of Hereward the Wake whilst the least recognised was the raising of a seaborne invasion (on the scale of 1944 Overlord) based
