Festival theatre: The Weevil in the Biscuit – John Foster
In his Bournemouth home, sickly Robert Louis Stevenson is inspired by a nightmare. Bedridden, nursed by his matriarchal American wife, Fanny, he feverishly writes the first draft of The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde… and burns it. Set in 1886, this play depicts Stevenson’s creative struggles in writing his iconic tale of the divided self.
