Whittington Castle site has been occupied since Pre-historic times.There is still evidence of an Iron Age settlement.The Normans choose the site to build an impressive castle to use as a power base.
A light skirmish occurred at Whittington during the English Civil War and eventually the grounds and outer bailey
became a Farm while much of the stone was used to build the main road. During the First World War the Castle became a laundry. It has also been a library,restaurant and is now a histor
