Hiberno-Saxon Manuscript Illumination
An Evening Lecture with Amy Jeffs
This lecture will guide you through the imagery of some of the finest works of art of Medieval Europe, including the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Book of Kells. Exploring the circumstances in which they were created and how they were intended to be received. They are a unique response to the coming of Christianity to Anglo-Saxon England and have much to teach us about the relationship between East and West, old and new, saintly hermits and ambitious kings.
