The followers of Catholic James, the Jacobites, were defeated at Culloden; and three more Georges followed as a result. An age of elegance and of scandal, of dirty politics and great scientific advance, when Britain gained an Empire, lost America, and defeated Napoleon at Trafalgar and Waterloo. What a fascinating period of history to be studying!
