St Mary's Church, Dodleston
Heritage Open Day: Designed by local architect John Douglas in 1870, St Mary incorporates a medieval bell tower and the 16th century tombs of Sir Thomas Egerton and family. He was Lord Keeper of the Great Seal to Elizabeth I and Lord High Chancellor to King James I. He chose Dodleston his birthplace as his final resting place over Westminster Abbey. He is buried with his first wife Elizabeth (nee Ravenscroft) d.1588 and his son also Sir Thomas d.1599. The famous poet John Donne attended his fune
