Claife Viewing Station

Heritage Open Day: Claife Viewing Station is an old Victorian viewing point, overlooking Windermere. It was built in the 1790s and was fashionable with tourists in the 1830s and 40s, who would come in search of the thrill of the 'Picturesque', following the earliest guide books. The National Trust has just completed a major renovation project on the Viewing Station, courtyard and surrounding area. The new cafe in the courtyard cottage is open and serving freshly made cakes and award
