Smoke House

Heritage Open Day: The smoke house was built in the 1930s for the Hull and Humber Bacon Smoking Company and within an existing single storey warehouse complex. Prior to 1854, the Theatre Royal had occupied the same site. Externally the slate covered truncated hipped roof can clearly be seen as can the three distinctive cowls for venting the smoke. Unlike many of the smoke houses in the city during the 20th century, it seems likely that this site was only used to smoke bacon rather than fish, but
