Harlowbury Chapel

Heritage Open Day: Medieval chapel built in 1180 with brick buttressed flint walls a fine crown post roof and Norman arched doors and windows. The estates at Harlowbury were gifted to the abbots of Bury St Edmunds in 1041 by a saxon thane, Thurstan, and the chapel built in 1180 by Abbot Samson. It served to allow the abbots to offer prayer when travelling to London. The house, which is not open, was built by abbot Hugh in 1221. The chapel and front gardens of the manor house are open.
