Heritage Open Day: This was one of the first purpose built 'electric light' cinemas in the UK. Now the Thwaites Empire Theatre is a thriving community theatre venue which is run by a tireless band of volunteers who give a friendly welcome to audiences. This fascinating backstage tour explains how the dedicated team raised funds to turn a derelict cinema into a wonderful hub for local performers as well as big names. You'll stand on stage and go behind the scenes to the lighting
