Heritage Open Day: Founded in 1824 by Dr George Birbeck, The Ipswich Mechanic's Institution moved into the former chemist shop at 15 Tavern Street in 1834. This hidden oasis of cultural and architectural heritage includes a popular independent library in a light airy barrel-vaulted hall, dating from 1876.
