Ashbrooke: The Development of a Victorian Suburb - guided walk
Heritage Open Day: A walk around Ashbrooke area tracing its development as a Victorian suburb for Sunderland's middle classes. The walk will focus primarily on the development of land owned by the Mowbray and Thornhill families and will look at how the suburb fanned out from the southern edge of Mowbray Park as far as Ashbrooke Cross and also along Tunstall Road. We will be looking at the timing of development, the types of housing built, who lived in them, and in some cases the developers
