St Edmund's Chapel

Heritage Open Day: St Edmund's Chapel is the oldest working church in Gateshead. It was built in the 13th Century as a pilgrim's chapel and hospital for those walking the well trod pilgrimage route to St Cuthbert's shrine in Durham. In 2010 the north wall of the chapel was converted into a gallery (Sanctuary Artspace) which hosts regular exhibitions by local artists.
