Jack Trott is a poor boy who lives with his mother, two brothers and their cow in the village of Loose Chippings where they and the villagers live in fear of a Giant.
The local Squire has threatened Jack’s mum with the bailiffs as she owes £750 in rent. The only thing of value is the family cow so Jack takes her to sell at the market.
