Mummified Cats and Other Traditional forms of Protection
Cats hidden under hearthstones; ampulae of Holy Water buried at field boundaries; shoes carefully placed in roof spaces; protective marks scored into timbers at entrances. All these have been found in the Old Medicine House, in the garden and in the surrounding fields. Participants will be able to see these protective devices, some of which are not usually shown to the public, and discuss with Valerie White and Griselda Garner the rituals that people used to protect themselves and their property
