Exhibition: About Face - Pastels by Henry Tonks
Henry Tonks (1862 - 1937) was a qualified surgeon and an artist, practising and teaching medicine but also producing artistic work and teaching at the Slade School of Fine Art. The pastel drawings by Tonks in this exhibition date from this period and starkly document and illustrate facial injuries sustained by servicemen during the conflict, and the progress of their surgery. Wilkinson, the value home and garden retailer, is set to launch its brand new store, situated in The Galleries Shopping Centre, on Thursday 24th May, with a little help from the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland, Councillors Robert Heron and Juliana Heron. The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress will mark the start of a day of celebrations by cutting the ceremonial ribbon at 9am, alongside.. more
