Conservation work party
Come and help Eden Rivers Trust control the invasive species Himalayan balsam. It is taking over our river banks stopping our native plants from growing. It also leads to increased erosion. This is a great opportunity to do some practical conservation in a beautiful part of Cumbria. The plant is easily pulled out and gloves are provided. Please bring appropriate outdoor clothing and a packed.. more

Acorn Bank - Open Garden for NGS
Sheltered and tranquil walled gardens contain a herb garden with more than 250 medicinal and culinary plants. Traditional apple orchards and mixed borders. Beyond the walls lie woodland walks with a wonderful display of snowdrops, daffodils and wild flowers in spring. Dogs welcome on leads on woodland walks. Calving to Carving - Farming Landscapes 2012
John & Jane Taylor farm at Low Howgill, a beef, sheep and arable farm with a number of diversification enterprises - holiday cottages, B&B, fishing lake, wind turbine and a butchery processing and selling our own Shorthorn beef, lamb and pork. The farm has also been managed to enhance its’ value for wildlife and to improve the landscape. Most enterprises will be available to view on the open.. more

This is a 3 day course with Pip who is renowned throughout the north of England for her letter carving, poetry walks and beautiful additions to many of our city centres - her work is in Carlisle, Kirkby Stephen, Dumfries and Sheffield. Not only a wonderful craftswoman, she is also a great tutor and comes complete with stone carving equipment and easels for a whole class. £180, incl lovely.. more

Material costs of a pendant necklace are included. A bracelet may use more materials and cost a bit more, and additional pieces incur an extra charge payable to the tutor. Extensive range of plants, many unusual. Art constructions in and out, local stone used creatively. Fine views, so unkind winds.
