Exhibition of work by 13 students on the National Extended Diploma Art and Design course (Yr 2) at the Art College, Carlisle. Being a mixed media project a variety of techniques were explored in the studio. These included embroidery, illustration, garment construction and digital imaging.The project brief was ’Inside Outside’ and this is the first external exhibition by these students who have curated and hung the work themselves. more

A captivating and colourful stitched tale of 350 years of history is on display at Ely Cathedral: 31 January to 29 February 2012. Conceived by a brilliant embroiderer 30 years ago, the 77 panels were made by 4,000 men, women and children from all over the world. Thirty nine of the panels will travel to Ely from their home in Cumbria. The free exhibition includes a film, audio guides, children’s activities, gift shop and embroidery demonstrations. Lakes Aquarium is gearing up to allow children and adults alike to get up close and personal with its incredible and awe-inspiring creatures through a half term ‘Close Encounters’ event running from February 13-19, 2012. Lakes Aquarium prepares to feed visitors lots of science facts, rather than science fiction, while enabling them to feel, observe and discover the range of wildlife under its roof in a variety of dynamic ways. Every day, children will be able to handle snakes and a giant land snail, use magnifying glasses to observe rock pool creatures and their characteristics and dive into creative discovery bags located around the Aquarium.
