Hertfordshire Chorus: Durufle/Allegri/Kodaly/Gabrieli/Widor
The Chorus returns to the Abbey with a programme to thrill. Kodaly’s impassioned Missa Brevis was written during the Second World War, and is ultimately a hopeful work, although the agony of war is evident in the music. Allegri’s haunting Miserere sends shivers down the spine with its pure and exhilarating top Cs. Most often heard as a wedding recessional, Widor’s rousing Toccata is played by Charles Andrews, virtuoso organist and, since the beginning of this season, the Chorus’s accompanist. Duruflé wrote his Requiem not to rage against death, but to console the living, and the work is full of haunting melodies. If you like Fauré’s Requiem, you’ll love this too. Please join us to enjoy this wonderful evening of music more
7.30pm TIckets £5 - £25 available online from www.hertfordshirechorus.org.uk, or at the Abbey box office, or phone ticketline 0870 4580445

Ian Siegal
Charismatic, massively talented and as ruggedly handsome as they come, MOJO magazine rates Siegal “the cleverest writer and most magnetic performer of Blues in the UK”. His CD Broadside was the first by a non-American artist to be MOJO’s Blues Album of the Year. He is also one of only two living British artists to be given the highest rating in the Penguin Book of Blues. And his latest CD The Skinny was recorded in Mississippi among the distinctive musicians of the hill country blues. Siegal’s live performances are captivating. “The man is a star. Period” is how one reviewer described Siegal after an appearance at London’s Jazz Café. more

Out of the Woods -- Paintings by Nigel Markham
Work by well-known artist and teacher Nigel Markham, lecturer in fine arts at North Herts College. A graduate of the Royal Academy Nigel has continuously exhibited, taught and studied art. His relentless desire to observe and, visually, express his findings has produced a fascinating body of intriguing and honest work. Uncompromising brushstrokes and ruthless mark making combine to create almost factual yet somehow abstracted landscape and genre pieces. From rhythmic linocuts to luscious oils Nigel manages to capture both the moment and a passage of his own history. His work has been exhibited at Kettles Yard, Cambridge, Edith Grove Gallery, Chelsea, and the Royal Academy. more
Open Monday to Friday 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. Saturday 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. Admission is free to all Galleries.

Don't take our word. See what our organisers say:
"Our family fun day this year was the best ever and a great deal of that success was from a mention on WhereCanWeGo.com. We will definitely be using it for all future events."
- Lee Mill Community Association.
"Our event was a success due in no small part to your inclusion of it and the fact that yours was the first entry in an internet search for the title of the exhibition. The days of chasing after printed media coverage are over. Where Can We Go gave us excellent coverage and and we would be happy to recommend your service to organisations large and small."
