Family Arts Festival - Shostakovich`s Eighth

As the USSR faced the onslaught of Nazi Germany, Shostakovich poured his feelings into a symphony on a truly epic scale. Shostakovichs Eighth is music wrought from blood, fire and steel massive, uncompromising, and so powerful that after the War, the Soviet authorities banned it. Itll make a gripping return for guest conductor Cristian Mcelaru; and with Akiko Suwanai as soloist, Mendelssohns much-loved concerto will make a truly poignant contrast.
Tickets £5 - £48. Time 19.30
