St John the Baptist's Church, Chester

Heritage Open Day: Founded by Aethelred King of Mercia in 689, from 1075-1541 this was Chester's Cathedral and Collegiate Church (The Church of the Holy Rood). The Norman nave became a parish church in the time of Elizabeth I. Research is ongoing. Also open is the unique Chapel House, which contains some of the finest medieval roof bosses in the UK.
