Knutsford Royal George Assembly Rooms/Ballroom
Heritage Open Day: Immortalised in Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford as the Knutsford Assembly Rooms, the ballroom has been closed to the public for over 15 years. For HODs, members of The Gaskell Society will talk to visitors about the author's links with the building and read passages from Cranford.
The Royal George dates back to the 14th century - from 1653 it was called the George and Dragon, a lively and important coaching inn.
The George and Dragon became the Royal George in 1832
